Are you looking for ways to get your kids connected to Christ? Then let’s talk about why kids need devotionals!!
Devotionals help kids get to know God’s word in a new way and it begins to take on new meaning for them.
Using age appropriate devotionals for kids will speak to their young, personal hearts.
What is a Devotional?
Most Christians have some sort of quiet time during their day. This time is often considered “devotions” or a time where we turn our hearts to God and look to connect with Him.
Many people use a devotional book, which helps us focus on Christ by using scripture verses, short stories, and written prayers. These are short and easy to read snippets.

I have used personal devotionals for many years. Most mornings for me would include prayer, bible reading, devotion reading, and then a little journaling to recall what I felt God was showing me. I’ve used many different devotionals in my journey and some I enjoyed more than others.
The key is finding the right devotional.
Here is a popular one for women Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.

When our kids are small, we are the ones reading a devotional to them, maybe along with a bible story. Then, when they grow older, they can read on their own.
Why Kids should Read Devotionals
Since this is a life habit that adults need to cultivate, we parents should be helping our little ones see the value in it too.
Starting early by teaching your kids the value of quiet time is a life long discipline. Doing family devotions is a great way of doing this too.

By daily setting aside time to read an uplifting devotional, kids establish healthy habits for their futures. They will learn to reflect on who they are in Jesus, why they were created, how they can rely on Him, and so much more.
Once my kids reach a certain reading level they begin reading a full text bible such as the one my son is reading now. God’s Word is so rich and deep that having a devotional to go along with a child’s bible reading can be truly enriching.
These skills will empower them!!
It helps them begin to look at God’s Word as a life application resource when they have an appropriate children’s devotional book to guide them
To achieve a successful devotional time you will need to get some great materials in your kid’s hands. I have used quite a few different devotionals and I am always reading reviews and checking how many stars they have.
