FREE 2023 New Years Interview!
So here it comes again….a New Year!!
I have lined up for you the BEST ideas for New Year’s Eve with Kids!!
In the past, I enjoyed nights with friends and even a few trips into the big city for all the festivities (and New England cold).
If you’re like me with all littles around you, then you are probably not heading out to celebrate too late and especially not until MIDNIGHT!
Staying home is best with kiddos, but we mommas still need to have a plan!
Over the past several years we have come up with some very creative ways to celebrate the ringing in of the new year with our little family and really have a blast!!

DECORATIONS
I love that the new year is celebrated with shiny, sparkly, glittery things….seems to make it all magical as we transition from one year to the next.
One TOP “must-do” for our annual New Year’s Eve with Kids celebration is having a New Year Tree! We deck out the Christmas tree with streamers, balloons, shiny horns, and a Sparkly Party Hat Topper!
We also pick up lots of party items for everyone to celebrate with. Party hats, New Year glasses, and party horns (that I always regret….lol) for everyone.
There are shiny decorations hanging from the ceiling and glittery table settings with table cloth and glittery place settings.
FOOD Fun
Food is often the center of it all…..whatever the holiday is.
New Year’s Eve with kids is no different so you might want to come up with your own family favorite food tradition.
For some reason, when I was growing up we always got Chinese food take-out for New Year’s Eve dinner. This is a tradition we still do today.
There are some other great food fun ideas that you can incorporate into your New Years’ Eve.
- Chinese Food
- Make your own pizzas and go nuts with toppings
- Taco spread with all the fixen’s
- Clambake
- Bake cookies
- Festive popcorn
- Ice Cream Sundaes
- Hot Cocoa bar
Grab some sparkling cider or sparkling apple juice too to toast to the new year!
ACTIVITY BAGS
To add to the fun, I have incorporated hourly bags that the kids open throughout the evening.
Inside there is a different activity.
Here are some of the different activities we have done over the years:
- Annual Kid’s New Year Interview
- Minute to Win it Games – there are so many fun ideas for these like moving m&m’s with a stray, pom-pom poppers, and egg on the spoon. Check my Pinterest Board for more game ideas.
- Family Games – think Pictionary, Uno, Charades, Qwirkle the options are limitless
- Year in Review Photo Slide Show.
- Neighborhood or Nature Walk
- Decorate Cookies
- Movie & Popcorn – we usually get a new one for Christmas and save it for NYE.
- Craft time to make “noise makers” or hats with glitter and sparkly things…of course.
- Glow Sticks
- Ice Cream Sundaes or Hot Chocolate Bar.
- Money Hunt – totally a favorite!! Hide $1 bills around and watch them scramble for some cash!!
- Silly String fight – outside of course!
- Dance Party
- Prayer for the New Year
Even with an activity every hour, the kids have a hard time waiting to open the next bag.
We always have a time of prayer and sharing some of the fun events that we would like to do in the coming year.

Goal setting is becoming a little more of a thing as the kids get just old enough to really see the value in setting some. We focus on the areas of learning, leading, loving, and listening to God.

New Year Countdown
When you plan your evening by the hour, it also allows you to celebrate the New Year Countdown earlier than midnight, which helps with little ones.
They can celebrate and then all head off to dreamland at a reasonable hour.
You can find some great YouTube Countdowns for kids with fireworks too to add to the excitement.
Here is a fun one with a 60-second countdown and fireworks:
So, as you plan some fun things for your New Years’ Eve, I hope you will focus on the joy that is set before us as momma’s.
It is a special time to reflect inwardly too and see how we can set our own goals – Why not choose a personal Focus Word for the coming year? Seeking after God first is key so that we can be the momma He has called us to be.
