The aroma of slow-cooking homemade applesauce in the kitchen makes the feeling of autumn come alive.
If you love to go apple picking then you might have a big bag of apples looking for some simple recipes. We do apple pies and apple crisp, but on the top of the list for us is this easy and delicious homemade applesauce.
Ingredients
- 10-16 Apples (macs, cortland, gala all work)
- 3/4 C water
- 1/2 C sugar
- 1 TBSP cinnamon
- 1 tsp cornstarch
Simply begin by peeling and coring your apples. I use different varieties to mix up the flavors – macs, cortland, golden delicious, any kind will do.
Toss them into your favorite 6-quart crockpot (I like the big ones) and turn it on high.
Add water, sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch (thickener) then stir.
Let this cook for 4-5 hours on high and enjoy that waffling apple-cinnamon aroma!
While you are waiting for the homemade applesauce to cook, you can also do a few apple crafts.
Apple stamping is one craft my kids love. Slice and apple in half and use red and green and yellow tempera paint. Stamp half in each color and stamp on white paper. You can also glue actual apple seeds to the page when dry and add a basket weave.
Some fun Apple Books always go great with crafts and cooking. Here are a few of our favorites!
