Ever feel like your homeschool needs a shift in direction? Been there! Check out what we did one year to make much needed Mid-Year Homeschool Changes.
After a very busy fall and Christmas season, January hit and I did some reflecting on how our homeschool year was going. You know, consider where the kids are at, where Momma is at, and how we’re doing with the academics so far.
It was getting bitter cold here in New England and I was sensing the need for more community. And people….we needed to connect with people!
We had not been able to find a good academic Coop fit for us during the previous summer. The one we had been participating in was great but too small to meet the needs of each of my kiddos.

I had prayed about getting into a local Community Bible Study with a homeschool group that we enjoyed a couple years back (never should have dropped out) but there was no space for us by the time my registration arrived – note to self: next year mail it myself rather than ask the hubs…wink wink.
So, here we were in the middle of our school year and hungering for community.
Classical Conversations (CC) is something that I had previously considered, we even visited an Open House last year, but that group had not seemed like a good fit based on the subjects they would be covering in the coming year. However, the more I brought my heart to God for some wisdom in this area I really felt that CC was going to be a good fit for us.
That Sunday night I contacted the Director about getting in for next fall. She immediately suggested that we join NOW! What??
Sometimes God moves faster than expected. Me and the hubs chatted about it and decided it was a Go!
We began our new coop journey just a few days later and I could not be more excited with my kids’ response to the change. They were ALL so excited when I told them about participating since they had friends in the coop. It was the perfect Mid-Year Homeschool Change we needed.
After just a few weeks I could see that this was one of the BEST homeschool decisions God led me to make right in the middle of the year.
Do you trust God with your School Year? See how to anchor your heart today!
The kids became excited to get out once a week, even though they do an oral presentation each week (awesome – right?) and they are totally motivated to get there to see friends!
When something is missing in your homeschool, do what you can to pivot and make Mid-Year Homeschool Changes as necessary.
smooth transition.
If you have considered Classical Conversations before, I strongly suggest you continue to pray and check out an Open House in your area. It is not for every family, but it provided us the community we were looking for.
If you are just looking for some community then check in your area for small coop programs. It can be tricky with multiple kids, but worth the effort.
Regardless of what you sense might need a change during any time in the school year – JUST DO IT.
Don’t be afraid to make the change. Trust your gut.
You really do know what is best for your family to thrive.
I have found that I rarely need to make any Mid-Year Homeschool Changes. However, I have learned that when I see the need and make the change, we all are grateful for the pivot.
Have you ever made a change in the middle of your school year? Would love to hear about your experience.
Best,
